Compass is a software as a service (SaaS) product validation application that automates or streamlines time intensive activities during testing of products, features or services.

Amazon needed a way to collect and share feedback from a diverse group of internal and external product testers in an organized manner. The platform would be used by a diverse range of people: anyone from a tech-savvy teen to their less-savvy grandparent. The platform also needed more complex functionality under the hood to meet advanced users' needs.

The one where boomers get along with Gen Z

One of the biggest challenges was to cover a wide variety of users, from a tech-savvy teen to a 65-year-old grandma. The app had to be entertaining enough while being super easy to understand and handle. We solved that by having clear, vibrant quick actions, apparent and informative text to help you understand your actions, and just enough dialog boxes just in case you missed clicked something.

Adapting for responsiveness

Based on our data, we knew that about 62% of external testers matching our product marketing demographics & segmentations were mostly using mobile devices. We had to adapt the full functionality to be mobile-friendly to ensure no one gets left behind.
